TCM Dermatology

Soraluna’s TCM Dermatology Program uses Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) to address skin concerns and promote healthy skin function.

People seek support from TCM Dermatology for psoriasis, acne, rosacea, eczema, perioral dermatitis, herpes simplex, herpes zoster, warts, corns, hives (urticaria), and more.

Our holistic dermatology program uses a threefold approach:

  1. Internal herbal formulas addressing the root causes of inflammation

  2. Topical applications to clear the skin’s current manifestation

  3. Nutrition/lifestyle support

How it works

Initial Consultation

Come in for an initial consultation. We will discuss your skin history and your whole body health, including your digestion and sleep patterns. Your skin’s health is impacted by a variety of body systems, so I want to know as much as possible about your health. We will also discuss your diet and lifestyle. So many people with challenging skin conditions eliminate lots of foods from their diet, and my goal is for you to eat as widely as possible.

Herbal Formula

If I think your condition is a good match for herbal medicine, I’ll prepare an herbal formula for you. For most skin conditions, herbs are offered as granules or vacuum-packed herbal teas. The granules are prepared in our in-house apothecary, and the vacuum-packed herbs are prepared with our partner Chinese medicine pharmacy and shipped to your house.

Topical Formula

You’ll also receive topical herbal applications, if necessary. These can vary in price per month depending on your condition, and I can work within your budget to find something suitable.

Follow-Up Visit

Every three weeks, you’ll come back for a 30 minute return visit ($85), and I’ll take another look at your skin, see what changes have occurred, and adjust the formula as needed.

Cost

Herbal medicine ranges greatly depending on your condition. For most skin conditions, herbs range from $200-400 per month. I can provide an estimate for you at your consultation.

Program Duration

For most people, the program lasts about 6-12 months, though this can be longer or shorter depending on the severity of your condition. Once your skin is clear, you no longer need to take herbs.

My goal is for your skin to remain healthy and stable long after your treatments have completed.

Acupuncture

For some skin diseases, I might recommend acupuncture. For example, if you find stress or hormone fluctuations make your skin worse, or have post-herpetic neuralgia from herpes zoster, acupuncture can be supportive.

We can discuss your case at your initial consult, and what might be the best combination of modalities for you (and your healthcare budget).
