Herbal Medicine

Herbal Medicine is Soraluna’s specialty, and the clinic prides itself on providing high-quality, customized herbal support for people with a wide variety of conditions. Our goal isn’t just to address your health concerns; it’s to bring your body into a more balanced state.

Herbal medicine is a time-honored, holistic system using natural substances to promote the body’s innate healing capacity.

There are many systems of herbal medicine found throughout the world. Soraluna uses herbs from Traditional Chinese Medicine and Western Herbalism, combining the best herbs and formulas from each system.

How it Works

The process begins with a thorough intake, where we discuss your health concerns in depth.

From there, we craft a treatment plan that revolves around your health goals. This involves selecting the most suitable type of herbal medicine, deciding how often to take it, choosing the best form for you, and setting the frequency of our appointments. While acupuncture might also be an option, it's worth noting that about half of my clients focus solely on herbal medicine.

I'll then create a tailored herbal formula designed specifically for your condition, along with clear instructions on how to use it.

We’ll meet according to your treatment plan, and adjust the herbal formula as your symptoms change.

When you choose herbal medicine at Soraluna, your treatment plan will always be flexible, adapting to your unique health goals to ensure the best possible results.

Soraluna’s In-House Apothecary

I have over 150 single herbs and formulas in-stock, and are able to custom formulate for you on-site. If I don’t have what you need, I work with trusted herb suppliers to ship your herbs promptly.

Herbal Quality

People are rightfully concerned about herbal quality. I work with high quality, reputable herbal suppliers, and I purchase organic, responsibly harvested herbs as much as possible. Tinctures come from Natura Sophia Spagyrics, Herb Pharm, and Five Flavors Herbs. Granule Chinese herbal formulas are from Sun Ten, a reputable herb distributor with strong a quality control program, as well as Spring Wind, a local herb supplier with stringent standards.

Conditions Supported

Soraluna specializes in herbal dermatology. You can read about our program here.

I also support hormonal health concerns, like painful menstruation, menopause, PCOS, fibroids, PMS, and irregular cycles.

Furthermore, I love supporting people with seasonal allergies, autoimmune conditions, inflammatory arthritis, pain, injuries, respiratory conditions, Hashimoto’s and thyroid disorders, long-Covid, and more.

How to Take Herbal Medicine Formulas

Herbal medicine is available in various forms: tinctures, teas, pills, granule powders, syrups, and vacuum-packed herbs. I also carry high-quality topical formulas, including some I make myself. Different forms are better for different conditions, and we’ll discuss what’s best for your case. I will provide documentation at your appointment for how to best take your formula.

About the Taste

Herbal medicine has all the flavors you can imagine: bitter, salty, sweet, acrid, pungent, sour, and even umami. While the taste can be surprising at first, some people report craving the flavor of their formula over time.

Acupuncture

Some people come to Soraluna for herbal medicine treatments only, and that is great! Other people love to come for both herbal medicine and acupuncture combined, and yet others come for acupuncture alone. We can discuss the best treatment option for you at your initial consultation.

Number of Sessions

The number of sessions varies based on your health condition. A custom treatment plan will be tailored to your needs.

Cost

The initial session is $175.

Follow up sessions are $85 for herbs only, and $150 for a 60 minute session including acupuncture.

The herbs themselves range widely in cost, and I can provide an estimate based on your condition. For granule formulas, herbs are generally $35-45 per week. For raw herbs/vacuum packed herbs, especially for dermatology and autoimmune cases, the herbs run around $100 per week. When your condition has improved, you’ll no longer need to take the herbs.
